AutismOne: A Conversation of Hope Radio Program Host Teri Arranga Addresses New CDC Stats of 1 Child in 88 with Autism

Teri Arranga, Director of AutismOne, emphasizes the need for the public to have access to truthful information about the autism epidemic and the fact that autism is preventable and treatable.
VoiceAmericaTM Talk Radio Network host Teri Arranga will interview Martha Herbert, MD, PhD, on Tuesday, April 3 at 12 noon Eastern < www.voiceamerica.com/show/977/autism-one-a-conversation-of-hope& ..;. Dr. Herbert is an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and a pediatric neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as being the author of the new book titled The Autism Revolution: Whole-Body Strategies for Making Life All It Can Be.

As the director of AutismOne, which holds the largest and most comprehensive autism conference internationally each May in the Chicago area < www.autismone.org>;, the editor-in-chief of Autism Science Digest magazine, and a VoiceAmericaTM host, Teri devotes every day with the AutismOne team to making sure that all parents have access the full and accurate information that autism is preventable and treatable and that children who are already diagnosed can greatly improve and recover.

AutismOne board member, Robert Krakow, Esq., had this to say about the new statistics from the CDC: "In the latest chapter of its decade long 'autism' head count, the Centers for Disease Control announced on March 29 that the rate of autism is now a staggering 1 in 88, up from 1 in 110 three years ago, 1 in 166 a decade ago, and 1 in 2,500 twenty-five years ago. What is troubling about the latest announcement – a survey of children born in the year 2000 – is not only the enormity of the numbers but the lack of alarm, the abject absence of explanation, and the sheer perplexity of the government’s response to a calamity of staggering proportions, played out in hundreds of thousands of children – suffering one by one."

He continued: "In January 2004, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control, and the American Academy of Pediatrics issued an “Autism ALARM.” We are now so inured to reports of unthinkably high numbers that as a society we cannot grasp their significance. The “alarm” has passed, and we are awash in a problem with allegedly no solutions. The costs to children and families are so enormous that official statements of its cost are routinely and grossly underestimated. Our government and our nation have failed our children."
AutismOne Associate Director Laura Rowley adds: "What's the magic number for the government to listen? It wasn't 1 in 166 ten years ago...will it be 1 in 88, or will we have to wait until it is 1 in every house before they do something? We refuse to wait: AutismOne will continue to educate families that autism is not only treatable, it is preventable."
